Angus and Julia Stone
Hello again my long lost friends! I lost my inspiration but now I'm back with a cool new duo that I can't get enough of. Angus and Julia Stone caught my ear when their version of "You're The One That I Want" (yes, the song from Grease) was used on So You Think You Can Dance. Julia's voice is almost like a sweet little mouse just tickling the notes like glass bottles. The arrangement was much slower and it gave the song new life. I no longer see Sandy and Danny in the funhouse in my head when I hear the song. Now I see two people curled into each other in a huge bed. And now, the ABC show, Revenge, is using "For You" as background music for the episodes and teasers. "For You" has a much different vibe. It's almost condiscending in a way. "If I talk real slowly, If I try real hard, make my point dear, that you have my heart, here I go...I'll tell you what you already know". Love it, love it, love it! I can't believe how different songs by the same artist can make me feel so many different emotions. MORE TO COME, I PROMISE! "For You" "You're The One That I Want"

Guilty Pleasures
I know, I know, I haven't blogged in a few months. I was waiting for something to blog about! Now that we've gotten that out of the way...let's go through some of my guiltiest pleasures...when it comes to music of course!
1. Britney Spears - Yes, she has defiled Louisiana in a bad way, however, she is an amazing performer, when she's not going crazy and shaving her head. There was a time when I was actually jealous of her. I wanted to be her. Not so much anymore with all the psycho stuff. But her songs are cool to dance too. Does that help?
2. Ke$ha - White trash? Maybe. But her songs are so catchy even if they are 95% Autotunes! I like hearing about the young folks having a good time and getting pedicures on our toes, toes!
3. Katy Perry - Why did she marry Russell Brand? I have no idea, but that doesn't change the fact that she is too cute for words! I love her style of writing and her fashion sense. So what if she's covered in cotton candy and wears a blue wig!
4. Justin Timberlake - Ah, you thought I was going to say Bieber, right? No, no Beiber-fever here. But Timberlake has a cool nerdiness about him. He has an amazing voice to start with, but he's soulful and kinda sexy. No wonder he's dating every starlet in Hollywood. He can sing to them and melt their little hearts.

Death Cab for Cutie- I Will Possess Your Heart
I'm very proud to say that this band is from Bellingham, Washington, my aunt's haunting grounds.
Now let's talk about the song.....Creepy? Yes. Scary? Uh huh. Melodic? You bet your ass. It's almost as if a stalker wrote this song. I don't know if Ben Gibbard is a stalker, but he sure does sound like one. "How I wish you could see the potential, the potential of you and me. It's like a book elegantly bound but in a language that you can't read just yet." Those are some of my favorite lyrics of all time. It just paints an unsettling picture in my head of a sick and twisted lover imagining his prey is in love with him and just doesn't know it yet. Chilling and terrifying, yet sweet and sincere. This one will have you looking over your shoulder for sure.

Metric - Help, I'm Alive
I was vaguely familiar with Metric before I saw them live at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans in October. What I didn't realize is what an amazing live show it is. Whether she's banging furiously on the keyboard, tapping lightly on the tambourine or running back and forth across the stage, Emily Haines is just phenomenal. There is a lot to be said for an artist that puts on a good 45 minutes of non-stop action and can still sound awesome live. In a world of backing tracks and autotunes, there's just no place for Metric. You can't fake this stuff. Emily has also contributed to tracks for The Crystal Method and recorded Black Sheep for the movie "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World". Check out Help, I'm Alive. It's a catchy song with a dark throbbing underbelly. That will open the doorway for you to discover more Metric.
